About Event

The Disability (Access to Premises – Buildings) Standards 2010 (DAPS) were updated on November 23, 2024. These changes aim to improve accessibility for People with disabilities promoting a more inclusive built environment.

The event will start with Michael Small providing a high-level overview of the amendment to the Premises Standards and a discussion relating to the impact of the  Premises Standards review on the sector. Please note that the session will not discuss changes to AS1428.1 as this has been covered previously by ACA.

This will be followed by Con Livanos presenting on the interrelationship between the Premises standards and the existing Transport standards.

Representatives from VIC, NSW, ACT, and QLD will then provide quick comments on how these changes specifically impact access consultants in their states. The event will conclude with a Q&A session featuring panellists Joe Manton (VIC), Con Livanos (VIC), Mark Relf (NSW), Howard Moutrie (NSW), Eric Martin (ACT), Silvia Rossi (WA), and Nikki Jackson (QLD)

About the Speaker

Michael Small

Michael Small

Director Equality Building

Michael Small works with people with disability, businesses, government and the building sector to assist in making buildings and services more accessible.

From 1993 to 2011 Michael worked at the Australian Human Rights Commission developing guidelines and standards to improve access to public transport, the internet, education, local government services, public space access, banking and the built environment.

Michael worked on the drafting of the Premises Standards and access provisions in the NCC as a member of the Building Access Policy Committee and various Standards Australia technical committees and produced a number of resources to assist building professionals implement access requirements.

Con Livanos

Con has worked in accessibility, building certification, planning and engineering design roles for over 35 years. He is also a carer for his son who has complex disabilities. Con has worked for private consulting firms, as well as local and state government departments. He currently leads the accessibility assurance team at Victoria’s Department of Transport and Planning. Con draws on his professional and personal experience to provide accurate and practical accessibility and discrimination advice.
