Working principally in urban areas, the firm deals with projects ranging from boatsheds and single dwellings to large scale commercial, industrial, and residential developments. For private sector clients, we prepare applications and assessments of compliance with planning controls. For local and state authorities, we prepare the policies, guidelines and rules by which development will be assessed. Projects submitted for the approval of NSW local or state authorities require Statements of Environmental Effects including detailed analysis of planning control compliance. Apartment buildings must be assessed under a State Environmental Planning Policy 65 and its referenced Apartment Design Guide. securing approvals requires us to negotiate with state and local authorities, community groups and objectors. To explain planning proposals and building plans, resolve issues, and explore avenues for mediation, we arrange and conduct workshops and public meetings. litigation in the NSW Land and Environment Court may be the approval process of last resort. Sometimes it is the only viable path to approval.
