City Planning Works Project champions CITY PLANNING WORKS, formerly Neustein Urban, has been involved in the development of the built environment since its 1984 establishment as Neustein & Associates. Working principally in urban areas, the firm deals with projects ranging from boatsheds and single dwellings to large scale commercial, industrial, and residential developments. Individual projects in the office in 2018 have estimated values up to $1.2 billion. shaping the urban environment, we advise on the urban design aspects of proposals and also on the formulation of rules to achieve quality urban design outcomes. Utilising the professional skills of urban planning, urban design and architecture, we advise private and public sector clients on the development and management of the built environment. from regulation to litigation, we handle all aspects of the approvals process. For private sector clients, we prepare applications and assessments of compliance with planning controls. For local and state authorities, we prepare the policies, guidelines and rules by which development will be assessed. Projects submitted for the approval of NSW local or state authorities require Statements of Environmental Effects including detailed analysis of planning control compliance. Apartment buildings must be assessed under a State Environmental Planning Policy 65 and its referenced Apartment Design Guide. securing approvals requires us to negotiate with state and local authorities, community groups and objectors. To explain planning proposals and building plans, resolve issues, and explore avenues for mediation, we arrange and conduct workshops and public meetings. litigation in the NSW Land and Environment Court may be the approval process of last resort. Sometimes it is the only viable path to approval.
