Certificate IV and Diploma of Access Consulting
To be eligible for Associate and Accredited membership in the ACA, it is necessary for members to have completed either the Certificate IV or Diploma of Access Consulting, which are nationally recognised qualifications.
These courses are developed and delivered by Access Institute (RTO22404), which has more than 30 years of experience in the Access Industry.
Director (Ms.) Joe Manton is the inaugural Fellow of ACA and has developed and delivered the courses, along with a skilled team of access and training professionals. This team includes Accredited Access Consultants, Occupational Therapists, Hearing Augmentation Specialists, Building Certifiers, Engineers, Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), Livable Housing Australia (LHA) and National Construction Code (NCC) Assessors. A number of trainers are also people with lived experience of disability who experience access challenges and provide a critical perspective in understanding the importance of access and Universal Design in the built environment.
The courses are delivered online via Zoom, with Certificate IV delivered over 8 days and the Diploma of Access Consulting delivered over 11 days. There are also additional assessment tasks that must be completed within 12 months of course commencement.
In addition to the general courses, there are also courses targeted at Building Certifiers, Architects and Occupational Therapists. These courses have been modified to account for these professionals’ experience and Recognised Prior Learning. This means that the duration of the course is reduced so that these professionals can assist in fast-tracking the process.
